NBA Finals: Game 6

Game62008
Great job by Los Angeles (the Times, not the Lakers) in Game 6, and the Boston Globe came through with yet another championship front, much to the delight of the folks at Hunt's.

Thanks to Brian Gross of the Globe and to Michael Whitley and Derek Simmons in L.A. for sharing.

A closer look, one more time:

Let's do it again next year.

Sure to be the butt of jokes ...

Just look at the headline.

Go on. Look at it.

CWS 2008: Early Round Pages

Cwstooclosewithinreach_2
Four days into the College World Series and there have been a few certifiably great games, and some surprises too. (Fresno State, an NCAA No. 4 seed, is a win from the championship series while expected powerhouses North Carolina, LSU and Miami are facing elimination, and Rice is already gone.

This is a sampling of what we've done so far at the Omaha World Herald. Great photos once again abound. I'll avoid crediting every page for brevity's sake, but as a rule, Tim Parks is designing covers, Ben Vankat and Dave Elsesser are designing inside and sidebar pages (with occasional assists from Mark Davis), and I am doing posters and graphics. Ben Vankat also designed the preview section front.

Preview section credits go to Ben Vankat, who among other things is inside the gorilla suit.

CWS is always insane. Two full weeks of deadline NCAA championship games. We do six-page sections every night and it takes a toll. This year is compounded by the fact the Olympic swim trials are in Omaha immediately after the CWS. More pages will be shared in the coming days.

Pages from Tiger's win at Torrey Pines U.S. Open

It could very well have been one of the great days in TV golf: Tiger vs. Rocco for the U.S. Open championship in a 19-hole playoff at Torrey Pines.

It was also the culmination of a week's worth of coverage at the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Credit to the staff for a ton of nice work.

Illustrations that use solid screens as we see here reproduce especially well on newsprint.
