Save NPD, and off to the Second City
A group of our contemporaries, including Matt Mansfield, Steve Dorsey and Matt Erickson, have started what can best be termed an online pledge drive to save NewsPageDesigner.com.
Long story short, the site has been hosted by the Sun Journal in Lewiston, Maine, since its inception. The Sun Journal now needs the server space and will cease hosting next month. Click here to see the online drive, track progress, or make a donation. The donations go toward purchasing dedicated server space (total cost: $2,500, and that number has been met) and supporting NPD through SND, which will take over administration of the site, along with long-time boss Tim Frank.
... And after the jump (so you don't have to read about it if you're so uninclined, some career news from me).
...
And as you may have heard (because people keep talking about it), Monday is my final day at the Omaha World-Herald. I am leaving Omaha for the Chicago Tribune, where I'll return to sports, which should in theory mean a return to overposting here on this site.
Acknowledging the truth that it's an act of optimism to make any intra-journalism career move this year (even the employee-owned World-Herald shed 51 jobs this week), I'm excited at the prospect. Looking forward to joining Knowles, Cavendish, Berlin and Co. and working with Kellams. And to dropping bouncy balls down the stairwells in the Tribune Tower. There's no other way to cast it, other than an opportunity I am eager to embrace.
The flip site to that is, I have to leave Omaha. I have to leave behind Tim Parks, Dave Elsesser and Jeff Bundy, who have been my family in the Cornhusker State. And I don't know if it's possible for one person to have as much fun as I have had sharing a cubicle with any combination of those for the past three years. Likewise, I have to give up after hours with Vankat, Piastowski and Takaba, and working with Miller, Gratz, Thomas, Livingston, King-Homan and a bunch more I am leaving out. To all those people, and to Mike Reilly, Dave Kotok, Jeff Carney, Joanne Stewart, Larry King and Terry Kroeger, I offer a sincere and public thank you for these past three years.
See you down the road.

Good luck on the move, Josh, and on getting back into sports. Or is that a good thing? Anyway, the Tribune's getting a good one.

Wow. Horrible move. You are a cage fighter in the making. Seriously. I've seen you partially clothed. OK, that's not true. But, Rob Schneider described your "husky" shoulders to me once. Come to the Octagon, Crutch. It's your calling. Or, I suppose, you could got to one of America's great newspapers with quality folks like Cav and Berlin. I'm just saying life is about violence. And blood. Yeah, blood.
