As a happily married man, let me say:
You realize you still have a week to run, right?

I wish someone would marry me.

First of all, congrats Crutch.
But let me ask what others think of the "We did it" headline.
I mean absolutely no disrespect to all of the ubertalented designers and copy editors and editors at the St. Pete Times, but literally taking the "we" voice in the headline is a level of engagement that I've never been comfortable with. I've probably never been comfortable with it because I've never worked for a paper that was comfortable with it.
A lot of people don't worry about this type of stuff with sports (for example, there won't be a paper in the country that runs a "We did it" headline if Obama wins the presidency), but it still bothers me.

Yeah, it bothered me as well.
Of course, any of us who have been in that position, crafting a page/headline in a championship moment, knows there are often a few more people on hand with opinions.

Rob — It completely ruins the page for me. I just didn't feel like being the one to bring it up, but I'm glad someone did.
It'd be one thing to see it done for a HS championship at a small paper, but to see a respected paper like the SPT do it is rather disheartening. Have some respect, people.
What position did the copy editor who wrote that headline play?

I'm also glad Rob brought this up. I was just discussing how odd the headline was with our sports editor and we were both uncomfortable with it's cheerleading message. I'm sure everyone got caught up in the moment and lost a little focus or like Rich said, maybe some people that normally don't work in sports put their two cents in.
What did you guys think of the front page? I thought the “Hello, World!” headline worked well.
