The Shield, season 88
The traditional NFL shield logo gets a new look as of the 2008 draft in April.
The football shape was redesigned to resemble the Lombardi trophy and there are eight stars instead of 25, but the overall look is evolutionary. According to USA Today:
The shield logo was first used around 1940, two decades after the NFL's founding in 1920.
ESPN's Page 2 has some fun with possible alternate logos that didn't make the cut.
