Photos from Syracuse
It's been a week since SND Syracuse, to the 28th power, wrapped up.
One of the things I love about being there is getting to see pages that did not trickle online and to see non-U.S. papers that rock.
You may have heard what a big splash the Mexican paper, Excelsior (hey, that's Stan Lee's line!), made with the crowd in Syracuse. I first noticed their business pages in the early rounds and thought, man, what is THAT? Then the sports pages and A section started hitting the tables. No let up.
Follow the jump for pics of pages that caught my eye (not necessarily winners).
This LeBron page from Cleveland had us chatting. The circle is a series of 5,000 dots showing his scoring at the career milestone. The smaller circles are breakout points in the series explaining big games, etc.
Sure wish Hartford and San Francisco would post sports pages at NPD. The Courant baseball section cover is always cool.
Great story idea.
Interesting design choice, taking the bicycle frame into a silhouette on the page.
Who doesn't love cartoons?
World Cup fanatics and TV. The deep-sea diver head is brilliant.
Why can't we do agate pages like this in America?
My apologies on the photo quality.

Why don't U.S. papers do these things? I see lots of planning, lots of color ink and no ads.
